SUMMARY

“Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.”

This inspirational poem by the one and only Tupac Shakur is the foundational inspiration for The Rose that Grew from Concrete. Using music that conveys the emotional gauntlet of intense struggle, calm reflection, and triumphant resilience, this show is about overcoming the seemingly most hopeless adversity and becoming the metaphorical rose that emerged victorious on the other side of an impossible situation. A prolonged trumpet solo and percussion feature demands an advanced movement and visual skill set from the performers.
