BEWITCHED

SUMMARY

It’s the middle of the night, in the middle of a dark and enchanted forest. A giant cauldron sits on an empty patch of land with the densely-packed trees of the forest surrounding it. One by one, witches begin to emerge from the trees, and approach the cauldron. They ignite it using their magic, and spells and enchantments soon ensue. They have a wild night of sorcery, witchery and debauchery ahead of them, and their experience is as scary and thrilling as it is entertaining and enchanting! Bewitched is a show that is sure to put a spell on audiences and judges alike, with opportunities for visual and aural illusions galore!

THE EXTRAORDINARY ORDINARY

SUMMARY

The Extraordinary Ordinary is a show that celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary work. Set around a burning building (the visual options are aplenty), the show is separated by three distinct movements. The opener depicts the firefighters arriving at the scene and fighting the fire; the ballad depicts the devastation of the damage caused by the fire as the police officers and ambulances arrive; and the closer depicts the paramedics doing their lifesaving work.

MASSive

MASSive

SUMMARY

The multiple meanings and usage of the word “mass” is explored in MASSive. The first movement, “MASSexodus,” is a dark, brooding introduction with an epic opening ensemble statement using famous melodies from Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor. The second movement, “MASSmedia,” using John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, provides virtuosic musical opportunities for every section of the ensemble, where the rapid velocity is meant to reflect the onslaught of new information and messages sent via social media, text messages, the Internet, etc. The third movement, “MASSquerade,” which features the eponymous tune from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, provides moments of lightness, humor and opportunities for small ensembles to shine. The fourth and final movement, “MASSive,” which features an original music collaboration with trombonist Chris Bill, explores the idea of weight and density, but also majesty and grandeur, and culminates in a climactic ending with 50 trombones playing simultaneously with the rest of the ensemble!

Part One: “MASSexodus”
Part Two: “MASSmedia”
Part Three: “MASSquerade”
Part Four: “MASSive”

Monsters

MONSTERS

Monsters

MONSTERS

SUMMARY

Monsters depicts the primal fear we all once had as kids: the monsters hiding under our bed, in our closets, outside our windows and in our dreams. The central character falls asleep, only to slip into a nightmare. The monsters emerge from the darkness and taunt the dreamer. Eventually, the dreamer steadies their nerve and reminds themselves that they are dreaming… or are they? The monsters come back once again with a vengeance, and the dreamer has to either fight to wake up, or succumb to the nightmare.

There are TWO versions of this show! Version 1 has a darker ending, in which the monsters are actually not a nightmare, but real, and end up kidnapping the dreamer and taking him/her to their dark realm forever. Version 2 has a lighter, happier ending, in which the morning sun rises and the monsters are scared away, and the character wakes up, realizing it was just a dream after all.

MYTHOS

SUMMARY

Mythos tells the story of three formidable and iconic Greek gods and goddesses. The production opens with Athena, Goddess of War, as the dark and brooding fanfare from a Robert W. Smith’s The Inferno and the frenetic Medea’s Dance of Vengeance create propulsive intensity. The show then winds things down a bit and reflects on Poseidon, God of the Sea, as the undulating and gentle current of Enya’s Watermark creates a beautiful soundscape with hues of blue and turquoise. Zeus, God of the Sky, concludes the show with the kind of thunderous and epic proportions you can only get from Two Steps from Hell’s music, and Clock Tower Parade creates many memorable moments and dazzling effect!

QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

 SUMMARY

In the dead of night, a lavish but weathered Victorian-era coffin opens, and the vampire queen emerges, thirsty for blood. She makes her way to civilization, picking off townspeople one by one, using mind games and sheer, brute strength to bend them to her will and succumb to her power. Queen of the Night is a dark, energetic, and at times emotional production that your students are sure to “eat up!”

STRENGTH OF THE PACK

SUMMARY

“For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.”

Strength of the Pack is ultimately about bravery, courage and acceptance. A lone wolf wanders the world alone, presumably cast out from its old pack, and catches sight of a new pack in the distance. The lone wolf carefully approaches, but this pack is strong and its family bonds tight, and it must prove worthy enough to join and belong in this family. Through a series of trials and tribulations, the lone wolf eventually proves that it is courageous and brave enough to join the pack and belong in a new, better and stronger family than before.
